April 2, 2023

Interesting number coincidence.  In my quest to catch 100 Bowfin on flies, last year was my first year ever for catching Bowing, and I caught 46.  So I need 54 more (hopefully this year) to reach 100.  With the 10 Bowfin I caught today, that brings my year-to-date total to 27, leaving ... 27 more to reach 100!  Halfway there, in one way of looking at it.  Or...I've now caught 73, so I'm nearly 3/4 of the way there if looked at from that perspective.  In any case, I'm learning more about how these fish behave in the (generally very muddy) waters I fish.  Such an awesome fish!

So, including the 10 Bowfin, I also caught 5 Largemouth Bass, 1 Bluegill, 1 Green Sunfish, and 2 little Warmouth.

October 2, 2022

After my previous trip for Bowfin, I was one short of 30 lifetime bowfin, so I went back hoping for at least one more.  Also, last trip I caught 8, but lost 19!

This trip was better.  I caught 15 Bowfin, and lost @ 3.  Much better landing rate, although I can't say I did anything different, so the difference is something of a mystery.

I also caught some small Warmouth, Largemouth Bass, and Green Sunfish, and had a few gar shake loose before I could land them.  And I saw a big Raccoon, my first (live) one since moving to MO.
